I’m too busy to blog right now but some things are too important to go without comment. So, you see this…
Well, for the record I’m against it…
Think of a man: then take away reason and accountability.

Of course Grayling and his acolytes have been doing a media promo blitz for this new beacon of academic excellence and their only justification for the 18,000 per year they’re going to charge in fees is that it will help provide scholarships for students applying from underprivileged backgrounds. In other words the very same argument the Liberal Democrats trotted out in defence of their treacherous u-turn on student fees last year. At least Grayling and co have the chutzpah to bog the arm in a bit deeper, confident it seems that there are lovely wealthy people out there who will gladly pay out because, let’s face it, they’re the kind of people the college is really for.
Alas, I have yet to hear any journalists or presenters ask Clegg, Cameron, Gove and Grayling how many of these scholarships might be offered in any one year and what will be the proportion of scholarship students to fee-paying students at universities charging maximum fees. Extremely small I would bet.
I’m sure you’ve got better things to be doing than loafing around on the internet AA but now you mention it the proportion of scholarship students to fee-payers hasn’t been given much of an airing.
For myself, I just feel that all the hand-wringing over low-income students and social mobility has got more to do with salving liberal, middle class consciences than anything else.
